Responsibilities

This is the entry level job. Under direct supervision, performs standard tasks using established methods, principles, concepts & procedure related to their field of specialty. Applies theoretical knowledge to practical problems in engineering design. Independent judgment is made on tasks of low complexity.

 

Scope of Design Work

  • Design and development of new products
  • Sustaining Support Engineering
  • Customer driven design modifications and systems
  • Troubleshooting/failure analysis
  • Manufacturing Engineering support
  • Develop test procedures and perform and document testing
  • Preparation of documentation for Engineering design files
  • Generate Engineering layouts for fit, form, and function
  • Shop floor support - coordinate with production and manufacturing engineering to support production requirements

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Must understand and comply with all safety rules and company policies of Weatherford
  • Understand and comply with all Safety and Environmental requirements.
  • Perform simple engineering tasks using established procedures, these include, but are not limited to, stress analysis, material selection, cost estimation, and tolerance studies
  • Perform engineering layouts for fit, form and function checking
  • Preparation of documentation for engineering design files
  • Know and understand Weatherford’s Enterprise Excellence Program and the Quality Policy and comply with all requirements of the Quality Systems Manual, Operating and Technical Procedures and Workplace Instructions
  • Work assignments carried out to the highest quality level
  • Coordinate with drafting for creation of drawings
  • Direct and oversee the project-specific activities of assigned technician staff
  • Know and understand Weatherford Quality Policy and comply with all requirements of the Quality System Manual,
  • Operating and Technical Procedures and Workplace Instructions
  • Other duties as assigned

Work Environment / Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift approximately 0-25 lbs
  • Generally includes indoor work
  • Generally within an office setting
  • Generally during standard business hours
  • Flexibility to work outdoors in changing environments that include remote locations/offshore, including multi-cultural situations.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • 0-2 years mechanical design/testing experience as appropriate
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related science degree from a recognized/accredited University required.
  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related science degree from a recognized/accredited University is optional

Technical Skills:

  • Excellent communications skills
  • Good written English (for report writing and documentation)
  • Willingness to travel and work in test lab, field, onshore and offshore environments
  • Basic design understanding of machining tolerances and fits.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry design principles
  • Product focused creative thinking
  • Experience working in a team environment in industry and/or educational projects
  • Strong trouble-shooting and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects

 Preferred:

  • Proficiency in using Creo (Pro-Engineer) or equivalent 3D solid modelling
  • Working knowledge of hydraulics and CFD applications including Fluent
  • Working knowledge of Industry standards and specifications (API, ISO, etc.)
  • Knowledge and application geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Analytical abilities in math, forces, and stress-strain analysis
  • Internship or work experience in similar technical role and/or industry.
